Sting Blog To Close

The days are now numbered for the Trenton Sting Blog as it will be deleted in the near future.

With the new ownership group deciding to do away with the team's well known and recognizable name by creating an "interesting" new identity; it is just one more reason for the Blog to quietly slip away.

While no exact date has been set in stone for the Sting Blog's removal, the plan is to keep it up for at least another month or so to allow any current and former players to access past stories and the photo gallery if they wish to save items as a keepsake.

I started this blog following the passing of Peter Huff. Peter's wife had been looking after the Official Sting website and understandably lost the desire to keep it going. With my being involved with the team and the need still there to have an updated presence on the internet, I took it upon myself to create the Sting Blog as a way to keep fans informed. I was happy to do it and glad it was so well received. The Sting Blog had visitors from all around the world including the United States, China, Australia, South & Central America and Europe.

Many people have asked why I am ending the Blog? This Blog has always been "My Baby" and was run with the permission of the Trenton Sting. In the end, it is my Blog and therefore I have the right to end it when I see fit and that time will be soon. Besides, the Trenton Sting no longer exist and have been cast aside in favour of a new identity.

It has been fun and a nice hobby but that time has come to an end. Thanks to all the fans for your support and the thousands of visitors who took the time to visit the site.

To the management, staff and players from other teams that I've interacted with over the years, you've all been great.

To Matt Goodman, my colour-man on the Sting game broadcasts back in the beginning; it was stressful and tedious work at times with many late nights on the road but we sure had fun. I couldn't have asked for a better guy to work with. Think of me the next time you're taping down a mile of phone line before a game.

Thanks to all of the past coaches I've had the pleasure of interviewing or working with while covering or being a member of the team. From Mike Oke to George Ferguson they were all true professionals and quality hockey men.

To all of the Sting players I've had a chance to get to know...the pleasure was all mine. You sure made the experience interesting and memorable. Many of you I still keep in touch with and plan to keep doing so.

Mostly, I want to thank Jon Gibbons and Scott Ilton for their friendship over the years and for allowing me to be a part of the experience. It was a lot of fun guys and you helped to provide me with some lasting memories.

Thanks!

Mark (Bundy) Kennedy

Thanks for all your efforts over the years.

This blog has been a wonderful way to keep the fans and players updated on how the team was doing and what the fans were thinking (although some were not so nice).

Thanks for the great job and the time it took to put into this blog. It will be missed.

Well put Bundy.

Good luck with all your future plans and hell, maybe we'll see you at a Huskie's game March 9th.

Thanks for your efforts prior to the end of the season. Your crying has wore out its welcome. Either suck it up and move on or close the blog now, this is the most pathetic display of sportsmanship I have ever witnessed. You obviously have never played the game enough to understand the mental toughness required to perservere through adversity with your heads up. I would suggest leaving on a high note to save your face, most people are tired of the feel sorry approach that has appeared over the sale of the team... I am sorry to be blunt, and you probrably won't want to post this. If I don't see it I will know why only the comments which support the approach currently have been posted, which would make me question the overall accuracy of this blog as a true community opinion. See you at the rink hopefully on a positive note, and maybe even as a volunteer, since you do have gifts that would be a shame to go to waste. Yours truly

I came here expecting the thing to be closed, yet here we are with yet another swan song...Let it go already. Find another distracction or sack up and get on board with the new ownership...They are trying to improve something that was very broken. Cutting out your backhanded comments towards them might be a start..

That's the nice thing about Blogs anonymous and Jim, everyone has an opinion and they provide a place for people to voice them.

You don't have to agree with what someone says but they have the right to say it.

I actually agree with Bundy. I don't want to speak for him but I think he's made it pretty obvious that he hopes the team and new owners do well in the future but he won't be a part of them. I get the impression he's only upset with how a publicly owned team was sold in a very non-public fashion. I too have to question that and the people involved who have never had to answer for this.

As for this post, I think it was a nice idea for Bundy to try and wrap things up in this fashion rather than just saying the blog is going to end in a little blurb following the details of the final game.

I also commend Bundy for showing he believes in allowing others to voice their opinions about his actions. You guys have certainly pulled no punches and just as I expected, Bundy let your comments stand as posted.

I don't know if you guys actually know Mark but he is a true gentleman and a pillar in our community. We need more people like him who do more than just complain but rather get involved and help to make our community a better place.

Thanks again Bundy for everything you've done and I hope you know we appreciate what you've done for Trenton beyond the hockey world.

Thanks Brian. That's pretty accurate.

As for those taking shots at me, it's not something that really bothers me. I stand behind my opinions and I don't expect everyone to feel the same or to understand. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and I respect that.

To Ron: I hope to get to a Huskies game soon if my work schedule allows.

Tanglefoot: It's been fun and you were a big part of that. Thanks.

I do wish the new owners best of luck and I hope they are very successful in building a winner in Trenton (Quinte West) once again like Jon was able to do twice. Time will tell of course.

Thank-you for the kind words Bundy. Those first radio broadcasts of the Sting games were a learning experience (who knew what a digital phone system was), a lot of work but mostly some of the best times I have had in radio and they would not have been that without you. Many hockey fans don't realize how much work is involved, especially the first few years getting the games on the air. Hockey is a game, a fun game and I hope we made it that for the fans. You will be missed on the Sting Blog.

I think if this new ownership knows anything about business, and how to show people they are appreciated they should offer, Jon, Sandy, Lori, Bundy and Scotty (and another important people I may have missed) season passes, now whether they choose to use them or not is there own choice but at least that way they are still able to enjoy the organization that they were all intergral in helping build. Also I think the first home game of next season there should also be an opening ceremony dedicated to these individuals recognizing their contributions to the organization. Just my opinion.

I am thinking the new owners should have went back to the roots of hockey in Trenton if they were gonna change the name, and go back to the Trenton Bobcats or the Quinte West Bobcats if you will..

Anonymous said...

Not sure that would go over well, the Bobcats started in Belleville and were there for years before moving to Trenton

They should have just left the current name alone and stuck with that. It's well known and has some good history to it.

Quinte West Pack - LOL. Congratulations Streetsville...you no longer have the worst nickname in the league.

What is Quinte West? If there's a Quinte West, then where is Quinte East? The only people who call it Quinte West are people who have to, like politicians and public officials. It will and always should remain Trenton.

The new owners had me on their side until they blew it with the name change. How dumb are they? There's no such thing as a Pack of Lions. I hope their hockey management skills are better than their grasp of the English language.

As long as the players play who cares...if you google you can find 238,0000 items refering to Pack of Lion, even a english ruggby team

Alright this is my post to the guy that dont follow anything about Trenton or Quinte West shall we say. Quinte is Belleville and Area, and we are West of Belleville, (assuming you do know your directions.) So when the Government told Trenton, Frankford, Sidney Ward, and Murray Ward to amalgamate, Mayor Jack Arthur and counsel came up with the name Quinte West. Yes we are still know as Treton but only because of CFB Trenton. Everything is now changing to Quinte West because it is unfair to the other Ward, they all pay Quinte West taxes as well. Trenton Minor Hockey is no longer, it is now Quinte West Minor Hockey, It is recognized by OMHA (Ontario Minor Hockey Assc.) As for the Pack name, I think it can roll, just think what the hell is Sting? It the same type of deal don't forget, its a Lions Pack and its a Bee's Sting. My advice to you or anyone is lets keep the game in mind, its not really about the name or who uses the name brand hockey stick. Thanks Bundy, and I think you should report on the new team, do like an internet radio station, talk with the new owners maybe they will support your idea.

Pardon my spelling mistakes before.

The new 'Quinte West Pack' blog site is up and what a piece of garbage it is might I add. If all you want to do is go and listen to some people bitch and complain and try and start fights with one another, by all means go check and out.

It's nothing like what Bundy had here, something that was actually doing the community some good. Your well kept blog site is going to be missed buddy.
